Exceedingly Rare Nmi Cadet Precivil War VirginiaNmi cadet in full dress uniform photographer unknown 1/9 plate ambrotype, ca. 1860-642-1/2 x 2 this is a wonderful and very rare ambrotype of a young cadte in uniform. He is sitting rpoudly and erect. He's wearing a splendid uniform consisting of a hat with a badge and the initials nmi, multi -button jacket, crossed starp with badge, and belt plate. The image has a patriotic mat with flags, drums, and cannons. Pinned on teh velvet pad is a type written note, cadet from the nansemond military institute, va. Pre-civil war. A evry good friend has researched this nansemond military instituteit existed for sure. Very little information is to be found on the internet. I include a scan of the tablecloth which i thought my tells us who the photographer was but nothing has bene found. It is very probable that it was a virginia photographer woh took this image but we don't know which one and we are not totally sure. The image is being sold for its content and how it appears and how wonderful it is. I do not make any claims as to the history and identification of the piece. It's a fantastic image with lots fo pop value. Condition excellent. Very sharp and clear. Excellent plaet quality and tonality. The image is housed in a full leather case with a split spine. Postage please add $5.00 for priority mail.
