Daguerreotypeambrotypetintype Photo Case Brass MatCheck out this wonderful daguerreotype/ambrotype/tintype photograph case large brass mat. This item measures approximately 4 7/8 inches tall by 4 3/16 inches wide. The actual picture or image opening measures approximately 3 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide. These items were designed to be placed in a leather, union, or paper mache photograph case of the period. This ornately scrolled mat is in very rsepectable condition, given it's age. For those taht may not know, these items were placed under a cover glass and surrounded the image for viewing. The combined items were then placed in a paper mache, leather, or union photo case to be sold as family keepsakes. What is somewhat unusual regarding this piece, is the fact that the front of the mat looks to be brass but the back looks to be copper. I am not sure why that is, but it makes for an interesting combination. This item is definitely metal, which has been intricately scrolled on the front surface, and is very thin in thickness.
